Most people arrive in Japan with the same checklist: Tokyo. Kyoto. Osaka. A blur of temples, train stations, and photos taken from the exact same spot as everyone before them.
This is not that kind of trip.
Hiroshima Setouchi Nomad Fest 2026 is a three-week gathering designed for digital nomads who want something deeper than tourism and more meaningful than another networking event. From October 11 to November 1, participants will split their time between Hiroshima and Matsuyama, experiencing two very different sides of Japan while living, working, and connecting alongside an international community.
The journey begins in Hiroshima, a city known around the world for its history, but loved by those who stay for its energy, resilience, and quality of life. Over two weeks, you'll settle into the rhythm of the city, joining community dinners, workshops, skill-sharing sessions, cultural experiences, and weekend adventures around the Setouchi region. Rather than rushing from attraction to attraction, you'll have the chance to experience daily life, meet local residents, and discover why Hiroshima is becoming one of Japan's most welcoming destinations for remote workers.
Then, on October 25, the group crosses the Seto Inland Sea by ferry to Matsuyama, a city that feels like it belongs to another era. Famous for its historic castle, literary heritage, and traditional hot springs, Matsuyama offers a slower pace and a chance to step back from the noise. Here, the focus shifts from urban connection to reflection, everyday life, and the simple pleasures that Japan does so well.
The theme of the festival is "Yohaku": a Japanese concept that translates roughly to empty space or margin. Not emptiness in the negative sense, but space to think, create, connect, and grow. In a world obsessed with productivity, Yohaku is an invitation to slow down and leave room for unexpected conversations, new friendships, and fresh perspectives.
Expect welcome gatherings, community dinners, cultural activities, workshops, outdoor adventures, and excursions throughout the Setouchi region. But the real value isn't found on a schedule. It's found in the conversations after dinner, the local recommendations that never make it into guidebooks, and the feeling of belonging that comes from spending enough time in a place for it to stop feeling foreign.
This isn't a conference. It's not a retreat. And it's definitely not a sightseeing tour.
It's three weeks to experience Japan the way it's meant to be experienced: slowly, curiously, and in good company.
